Due to the constant increase of organic fruit and vegetable growing the several varieties of bio strawberry available on the market have to be typified . The trial carried out by Assam and the Department of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences of the Polytechnic University of Marche aimed at identifying the more suited strawberry varieties to be organically grown in the middle Adriatic environment.
Therefore the 2014 experimental trial compared 16 unifere strawsberry varieties: “Alba”, “Aprica”, “Asia”, “Brilla”, “Clery”, “Cristina”, “Garda”, ”Joly”, “Madeleine”, “Premy”, “Romina”, “Sibilla”, “Siria” and 3 reflowering ones: “Albion”, “Malga” and “Monterey".
The varieties were cultivated in open fields and green houses and harvested by means of a “Veronese” kind tunnel.
